The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie

Sister Helena has been in retreat for approaching thirty years and her book The Transfiguration of the Common Place has become an international best seller. During an interview with an American journalist, she begins to reveal that the chief influence in her life was one of the teachers at the Marcia Blane Girls' Academy in Edinburgh. Through her eyes we meet Jean Brodie, a teacher of great influence, who filled the heads of her impressionable girls with her high-flown notions of Goodness, Truth and Beauty. There is much disapproval and criticism of Brodie's sway over her 'special girls' - her creme de la creme - and when one of her pupils, Mary McGregor, is killed during the Spanish Civil War, fingers point at Jean Brodie, accusing her of assassinating her most gullible pupil. 'Little girls, I am in the business of putting old heads on young shoulders and all my pupils are the creme de la creme. Give me a girl at an impressionable age, and she is mine for life.'
