A RAODS Production
Love, sex, birth, death and salsa classes...
Little Gem has caused quite a stir since it premiered at the Dublin Fringe in 2008. Party girl
Amber has bad indigestion and the Sambucas aren’t getting rid of it. Her compulsive mother
Lorraine attacks a customer at work and her boss wants her to see a psychiatrist. And her
grandmother Kay “toys” with the meaning of pleasure as she looks after her ill husband. In
this hilarious and heart-warming play, three generations of women in an Irish family tell the
story of one extraordinary year. Their entwined monologues josh us along with warm, wry
self-deprecation and lovingly snide asides as these three women greet life’s travails with
strength, humour and the occasional vodka and Diet Coke.
Elaine Murphy’s acclaimed comic drama lives up to its title – a real little gem!
