| The Sound of Music | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By Rodgers & Hammerstein | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. The motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time. NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Absurd Person Singular | |||||||||||||||||||
| By Alan Ayckbourn | ||||||||||||||||||||
A knock-dead funny, brutally well constructed farce of drink, desolation and class warfare from Britain's master of satire. In this hilarious dark comedy we eavesdrop on three couples over three successive 1970s Christmas Eves: the social climbing Hopcrofts in their gadget-filled kitchen, the relationship-troubled Jacksons in their neglected fourth floor flat and the laconic Brewster-Wrights in their Victorian style home. Add a mad dog, a dirty oven and some inappropriate party games and the result is classic Ayckbourn at his very best. "Alan Ayckbourn has the writer’s supreme gift of being able to successfully coat the wryly bitter pill of social comment with a delicious confection of drollery….An exquisitely funny play" The Stage

| Faith Healer | |||||||||
| By Brian Friel | ||||||||||
Set in the 1930s - as was Brian Friel's masterpiece Dancing At Lughnasa - this is the story of an Irish faith healer (the Fantastic Francis Hardy) travelling through the villages and small towns of Scotland and Wales. The story is told in mesmerising fashion by the man himself, his wife (Grace), and his manager (Teddy). Each of them has a quite different, compelling, version of the same events. Events that lead to a final, mysterious, crisis. "This is a wonderful play ... I cannot recommend it too highly". - The Daily Telegraph Not suitable for children under 10 years of age.

| The 39 Steps | |||||||||||||||||||
| By John Buchan, adapted by Patrick Barlow | ||||||||||||||||||||
Hilarious spoof of (particularly) the Alfred Hitchcock film version, the show has been playing to packed houses in the West End – and no wonder. The small cast play over 100 parts, and generate much madness. This first run will be at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall – with a short second run at the Plaza.

| The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas | |||||||||
| By Music & Lyrics - Carol Hall Book - L King & P Masterson | ||||||||||
Based on the real life Chicken Ranch in Texas ... it is the late 1970s, and a century-old brothel is run by Miss Mona Stangley, who was left it by the original owner. While taking care of her girls, she is also on good terms with the local sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd. When a local TV reporter decides to make the illegal activity an issue, pressure increases to close the place down. Opening on Broadway in 1978, the stage show ran for over 1,500 performances and won several Tony awards. It was then made into a film in 1982, with a memorable performance by Dolly Parton! Both on, and off, stage - a great deal of (surprisingly innocent) fun! "A cheerful, tuneful, deeply sentimental American musical." Michael Billington, Guardian
