From the author of the multi-award-winning The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. A RAODS Green Room Production Polar Bears is a captivating play exploring non-linear structures, philosophy and love. It follows the relationship between Kay – who has bipolar disorder – her family and her philosopher husband Pablo. Through a discontinuous series of scenes, we see the relationship between Kay and Pablo develop and founder; she becomes lost to another world, a world in which Pablo does not belong. Balancing humour with extraordinary pathos, this is a story of Nietzsche, Jesus, children’s books about monsters, and the pain of loving someone you can never really know. Polar Bears is thought-provoking and intelligent, and refuses to offer any easy answers about those involved in mental instability. The play was first performed in 2010 at the Donmar Warehouse, London. This production contains strong language, adult themes, and depicts serious mental health issues. | ||||||||||
